# Errors

> Error format and every error code the API returns.

Every error uses one envelope:

```json theme={null}
{ "error": { "code": "invalid_url", "message": "…" } }
```

| HTTP | Code | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| 400 | `invalid_url` | The URL is malformed or not safe to fetch. |
| 400 | `invalid_request` | The request body is invalid. |
| 400 | `limit_exceeded` | `limit` is above your plan's pages per crawl. |
| 401 | `unauthorized` | Invalid API key. |
| 402 | `credits_exhausted` | No credits left this month. |
| 404 | `not_found` | The resource does not exist in your workspace. |
| 410 | `expired` | Crawl data passed its 14-day retention. |
| 422 | `target_http_error` | The target returned a non-2xx status. `targetStatus` holds it. |
| 429 | `rate_limited` | Too many requests. |
| 429 | `concurrency_limit` | Too many running crawls for your plan. |
| 500 | `fetch_failed` | Sila could not fetch the page. |
| 500 | `internal_error` | Something went wrong on our side. Retry; contact support if it persists. |

Other HTTP statuses: `405 method_not_allowed` (wrong method for the route; the `Allow` header lists the right one) and `413 invalid_request` (the request body is too large).
